La escaladora americana Lori Schneider, del Estado americano de Wisconsin, se ha convertido en la primera persona con EM en alcanzar la cima del monte Everest.
Lori Schneider, de 52 años, alcanzó la cima del mundo en la primeras horas del sábado 23 de mayo, hora de Londres, llevando consigo una bandera conmemorativa del Día Mundial de la Esclerosis Múltiple que se celebra este miércoles 27 de mayo (www.worldmsday.org). La bandera dice: "Únete al movimiento global. Acabemos con la EM!".
Lori Schneider ha llevado con ella la bandera del Día Mundial de la Esclerosis Múltiple en todo momento en su mochila. Al abandonar el campamento base a primeros de la semana pasada, dijo:"Escalo esta montaña en nombre de todos los que tenemos EM y todos aquellos que necesitan que se les recuerde la importancia de vivir sus sueños".
"Escalar una montaña es parecido a tener EM - te concentras en dar cada uno de los pasos y te felicitas con cada uno que das. Al principio veía mi diagnostico como algo devastador. Ahora lo veo como un positivo punto de inflexión en mi vida, que me ha ayudado a vivir mis sueños. Mi misión es dar esperanza a otros que están viviendo con la misma enfermedad".
Peer Baneke, Director ejecutivo de la Federación Internacional de Esclerosis Múltiple (MSIF), ha dicho:"El movimiento mundial de la EM está celebrando el logro de Lori,". "Lori inspira a cada persona con EM o conoce a alguien con EM. Es una forma extraordinaria de celebrar nuestro Primer Día Mundial de la EM".
